When Asheem Chandna drove up to Rubrik’s office in Palo Alto on a Friday night in early 2015, he was looking forward to learning what the young company that had yet to build its product would show him. The Greylock partner wasn’t disappointed. The company’s CEO, Bipul Sinha, drew Rubrik’s plan to revamp the data management and recovery market on a whiteboard. “The old versus new architecture he presented was very compelling,” Chandna said. “Based on my knowledge of the sector, I knew it could be built into a large business.” That was a prescient call. On Thursday, nine years…

Ah, summer, with its sunny days, grilling out, and fireflies at dusk, is one of my favorite times of the year. Longer days, less structure, and vacations also mean more downtime, playtime, and hopefully more family time! Even though we homeschool, summer means a more relaxed schedule (and more time at the beach!). Summer brings a feeling of freedom and relaxation, but after a while, it can get boring. Inevitably, I’ll eventually hear, “Mom, I’m booored.” Sound familiar? A while back, my family started the tradition of creating an annual summer bucket list. Even if we don’t do all of…

Any soon-to-be college grads looking to land a job at JPMorgan Chase need not worry about what they major in. Those instructions come directly from the company’s CEO Jamie Dimon. In an interview earlier this week, Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Emma Tucker asked Dimon what a young person who wanted to work at the $556 billion financial firm should study.  “It almost doesn’t matter to tell you the truth because you’re looking for smart, ethical, decent people,” Dimon replied.   Although JPMorgan takes a more holistic approach in hiring campus recruits, it does still have a preference for those with backgrounds…

Screenshot/Collin Rugg X On Wednesday, Donald Trump met with New York union leader Bobby Bartels. As the head of Steamfitters Local 638, Bartels said his fellow working-class, blue-collar union members were leaning heavily towards Trump in the presidential election. Traditionally, union members have voted more heavily for Democrats. This time, Trump’s stand on issues like immigration, crime, and taxes are primary motivators. Bartels had a few words after the meeting as well, telling Newsmax’s Addison Smith that he feels like over the last four years that the Democratic Party has “basically pushed everybody to the other side.” NEW: New York…

More and more people are deciding to become entrepreneurs. Approximately 19% of working-age adults in the U.S. were in the process of starting a business or running a business less than 42 months old, according to the 2023 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report. As your business grows and you bring on workers, you may need to provide benefits. Businesses with fewer than 50 employees aren’t required by law to provide health insurance benefits, but health insurance is a highly-desired benefit. To attract and maintain a talented workforce, providing benefits may be essential.  We identified the leading providers based on their availability,…

The Portal isn’t the Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck killer some thought it might be, but it remains a handy tool for gamers who can’t play on their primary TV or just want the ability to enjoy games throughout their home. If you’re not already caught up on what it is, it’s essentially an eight-inch 1080p LCD display that’s sandwiched between two halves of a standard DualSense controller, meaning it features adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and all the perks of Sony’s latest gamepad. Its main (and only) purpose is to stream games via Remote Play, which requires a PS5 and…

Before joining TPG in 2021, I was a newbie to the world of points and miles. Despite traveling frequently throughout the previous decade, I was oblivious to the benefits of loyalty programs or how straightforward it could be to earn points or miles for airfare and hotel stays. For the last few years, I’ve immersed myself in points and miles, keen to understand every facet and maximize the value I get from every trip I take or penny I spend. Fast forward three years and I’ve accrued a healthy stash of Avios and, until very recently, was also sitting pretty…

Thousands of Indigenous people marched in Brazil’s capital, calling on the government to officially recognise lands they have lived on for centuries and to protect territories from criminal activities such as illegal mining. A group of Indigenous leaders entered the palace to talk to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, while others shouted outside the building: “Our rights are not negotiable.” Last week, he backed down from the…

The White House, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons By Casey Harper (The Center Square) President Joe Biden defended newly released underperforming economic growth numbers. Federal data shows the U.S. Gross Domestic Product grew at an annual growth rate of 1.6% in the first three months of this year, down from 3.4% in the previous quarter. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis released the data, which came in well below economists’ expectations, raised concerns about the future of the economy this year, and sent the stock market downward Thursday morning. “The big inventory buildup in the third quarter of last year…

Microsoft Corp. and Google owner Alphabet Inc. sent a clear message to investors on Thursday: Our spending on artificial intelligence and cloud computing is paying off.  The companies trounced Wall Street estimates with their latest quarterly results, lifted by a surge in cloud revenue — fueled in part by booming use of AI services.
