Report says famine has spread throughout the enclave after nine months of war.United Nations human rights experts have accused Israel of carrying out a “targeted starvation campaign” that has resulted in the deaths of children in Gaza. “Israel’s intentional and targeted starvation campaign against the Palestinian people is a form of genocidal violence and has resulted in famine across all of Gaza,” 10 independent UN experts said in a statement on Tuesday. Credit: ABC News YouTube White House national security spokesman John Kirby drew widespread mockery after referring to an upcoming appearance by President Biden as a “big boy press conference.” Kirby was discussing the President’s upcoming schedule when he made the reference. “I guess a big boy press conference, we’re calling it, and take some questions from you all,” Kirby told reporters. It’s unclear what constitutes a press conference of the ‘big boy’ variety and if it means Biden will avoid cheat sheets or calling on pre-determined reporters. Critics note that diminishing the press conference with such a phrase is “humiliating”…

Someone on X was posting MLB teams’ all-time lineups this spring. When discussing the Pittsburgh Pirates, he listed the starting nine and said, “Bad day to be a baseball.”Sure would be. Picture being a pitcher and facing the likes of Bonds, Clemente, Kiner, Stargell, Parker and Honus Wagner. Imagine the scouting report: “Throw your best fastball, and if anyone’s on base, go back up third.” Put that team in Coors Field, and they might not make an out.But as fearsome as an all-time Pittsburgh lineup is, an all-time Pirates’ pitching staff is not. It’s got names like Gerrit Cole, John Candelaria…

Ranch dressing has always been one of my first condiment loves (after ketchup, of course). After seeing what was actually in the store-bought salad dressings from the grocery store though, I knew it was time to break up. Thankfully I came up with an even healthier version of ranch salad dressing and now this ranch dressing mix. The kids and I love it on salads, but it also makes a great dry ranch seasoning for meats and veggies. Plus it’s naturally gluten-free. Why a Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix? I probably don’t have to tell you that Hidden Valley Ranch is…

Hello there! It’s been a while since I’ve written a real blog. Sure, there have been lots of how-to posts, itineraries, where-to-stay suggestions, and old-post updates to keep helping you travel on a budget. But it’s been over a year since I wrote anything personal — and it’s been even longer since I shared a story from the road. In the beginning of 2022, I wrote that I felt I didn’t really have much to say anymore. Sure, there are always new destinations to write about, but in terms of thoughts and advice, after over 14 years writing about travel,…

A 15-month trial of the four-day work week in the UK has given proponents of the alternative schedule a big boost as researchers running the study said it significantly reduced turnover and improved both the physical and mental health of workers. The experiment was introduced by South Cambridgeshire District Council in southeast England, who worked with researchers at Cambridge and Salford Universities. All totaled, 697 workers were involved in the trial. Researchers assessed 24 different categories in determining the success or failure of the project. And in virtually every one, the shorter work week resulted in a significant boost. Staff…

President Emmanuel Macron plunged France into political disarray with snap elections and now faces the nearly intractable decision of finding a prime minister capable of charting a path forward.  While Macron’s centrists ended up in second place, his power base has shrunk further and is hemmed in by Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally and a left-wing alliance, known as the New Popular Front. The resurgent French left, which emerged as the surprise winner on Sunday, is pushing to field a candidate. The problem is they’re more than 100 seats short of a majority on their own. Although a combination…

The orange flames shone a light on the twilight scene as Savitri Devi, 50, was cremated. She was among more than 120 people, mostly women, who died in a stampede last week at a religious festival in northern India, as the faithful surged towards a preacher and chaos ensued among the attendees. The event had received permission to accommodate only 80,000 people. It is not clear how many made it inside the giant tent set up in a muddy field in a village in Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh state but they were reported to be about three times the…

I haven’t thought about charging my Logitech wireless gaming mouse in two and a half years, because I have a magic mousepad that does it automatically. But Logitech mice that work with the Powerplay mousepad are expensive, heavy, or both, and none of them double as a Bluetooth mouse so I can wirelessly pair them to my laptop, handheld, or phone.Today, Logitech is changing that with the Logitech G309, an $80 mouse that almost does it all. It’s the first Powerplay mouse this inexpensive, the first with Bluetooth, the first that lets you use a AA battery when you’re on…
