Papua New Guinea: Many feared dead in landslide Emergency services are racing to reach villages hit by a massive landslide in Papua New Guinea’s isolated Enga province, where hundreds of people are feared to be dead. A rapid response team made up of medics and military personnel has managed to reach the isolated landslide site, humanitarian agency Care Australia said. Difficult terrain and damage to main roads has complicated their journey to the area, it added in a statement. “The land continues to slide and move, and that makes it dangerous for people to operate,” UN official Serhan Aktoprak told…

Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Kate Winslet, Jane Fonda, and Bill Moyers have all stayed at the famous Rancho la Puerta wellness resort and spa, an exquisite collection of mountain-edged casitas, pavilions, pools, and gardens on 4,000 acres in Baja California, Mexico.  But the property’s biggest star is Deborah Szkeley, who co-founded the ranch with her husband in 1940, and now—at 102 years old—is the embodiment of all the property aspires to deliver: health, longevity, and peace of mind.   “The morning I turned 100, I lay in bed and thought, ‘Huh, I’m 100. What’s different?’ I couldn’t think of anything,” Szekely tells…

But with Arab unity, Palestine will win its liberation, paving the way to peace and security in the Middle East through a two-state solution. What do you do for gifts when the man in your life is hard to shop for? I’ve been trying to answer that question for years. It always seems tougher to find good gift ideas for men than it does for women. Men usually aren’t as happy with some herbal tea and a new skein of yarn for a knitting project. And motorcycles and football tickets are bigger ticket items. The best Father’s Day gift ideas are something they’ll enjoy and actually use! This post includes some of the best Father’s Day gifts I’ve found over the years. It also…

I learned my biggest lessons in leadership from my daughter Riley, who passed away tragically at the age of nine. Riley was the kindest friend, and she felt the greatest joy from forging connections. She led through kindness and always celebrated her friends’ accomplishments to help them shine. To honor who Riley was and how she lived, my wife Mackenzie and I created Riley’s Way Foundation, which has provided over 3,500 young people across the U.S. with leadership development training that’s rooted in kindness and connection. I’m also the COO of global software investor Insight Partners, and from my work…

Sudan’s Darfur region is facing a growing risk of genocide as the world’s attention is focused on conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, a UN expert warns. “We do have circumstances in which a genocide could be occurring or has occurred,” the UN Special Adviser of the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, Alice Wairimu Nderitu, told BBC’s Newsday programme. No two camping adventures are alike, especially in the booming business of U.S. outdoor travel. Camping has come a long way from pitching a tent in one’s backyard. Hilton partnered with AutoCamp earlier this year to provide Hilton Honors members with a way to earn and redeem points at the outdoor lodging company’s various properties. But there are other providers in this space, like Huttopia, a French family-owned independent outdoor hospitality brand that has added five U.S. locations since 2017. The company also has locations in Canada, France, Spain and the Netherlands. Travel interest in the great outdoors boomed during…

The share of young people in the U.K. who vape has tripled in the last three years, new research shows, pushing up nicotine addiction in a reversal of historic trends.  Research from University College London suggests disposable vapes have created a sizable youth population who wouldn’t have smoked otherwise. According to the study, the share of 18-24-year-olds who inhale nicotine products has jumped from 28% to 35% since 2021. A big driver of that increase has been vaping, which has exploded in popularity with the mass marketing of disposable vapes. The proportion of 18-24-year-olds who use e-cigarettes has soared from…

South Africans are gearing up for watershed general elections on May 29 that could see the ruling African National Congress (ANC) fail to clinch a majority for the first time in 30 years. Some 28 million registered voters across nine provinces will troop out to vote for representatives to national and provincial parliaments. In turn, the winning parties will then name a president and cabinet. The results of the vote are uncertain owing to the ANC’s shaky footing. Among the biggest issues at stake in Africa’s most advanced economy are especially high unemployment records, violent crime, deteriorating public infrastructure, and…
