Apple Inc. has closed in on an agreement with OpenAI to use the startup’s technology on the iPhone, part of a broader push to bring artificial intelligence features to its devices, according to people familiar with the matter. The two sides have been finalizing terms for a pact to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the situation is private. Apple also has held talks with Alphabet Inc.’s Google about licensing that company’s Gemini chatbot. Those discussions haven’t led to an agreement, but are ongoing. …

Everywhere I look, I see an ad for Logitech’s Aurora Collection of accessories. At least, it feels that way. Often it’s the distinctive, cloud-shaped palm rest, or the beautiful all-white headphones. They follow me across social media platforms. You got me, Logitech: I’m interested. The Aurora Collection checks several boxes for me: It’s designed for gamers like myself, but with a softer aesthetic, featuring white form factors and colorful accessories, something that’s hard to find in a landscape of all-black everything. (Someone bring back the colorful monitors of the iMac age! I’m begging you!) It nicely toes the line of…

Posted: 5/10/24 | May 10th, 2024 San Francisco one of my favorite cities in the United States. I’m always looking forward to my next visit. There’s an amazing food scene here (especially Asian food), and it’s close to some stunning national parks where you can go hiking amid towering redwoods. However, thanks to the booming tech scene, it’s also one of the most expensive cities in the country. As much as I love visiting, it’s easy to break the bank here. Especially on accommodation. There’s a plethora of hotels in the city, but not all of them are worth staying…

Last month, when Bordeaux was just verging on springtime, I was reveling in silky textured wines from the 2023 vintage. Many were far better than I expected, especially after hearing so many tales of growing-season hardship from winemakers. Many seemed relieved just to have made it through the vintage without experiencing total disaster. Overall, the wines are far too heterogenous to call 2023 a great vintage, though some are pure magic. “You can’t put the 2023s into any category,” says Omri Ram at Pomerol’s Château Lafleur, one of my top wines. “It’s like every château experienced a different vintage.” The annual rite of Bordeaux en…

A report from the administration of President Joe Biden has found that Israeli forces likely used United States-supplied weapons in a manner “inconsistent” with international law, but it stopped short of identifying violations that would put an end to the ongoing military aid. In the report, released on Friday after a delay, the US State Department indicated Israel did not provide adequate information to verify whether US weapons were used in possible violations of international law during its war in Gaza. The Biden White House had issued a national security memorandum, NSM-20, in February requiring Israel and other countries receiving…

Years ago, I received a surprise in the mail: a $500 bill for a recent X-ray. I was earning an entry-level media salary at the time (for the uninitiated, that’s equivalent to peanuts), and the shock of having to figure out how to cover an unexpected expense sent my pulse racing with anxiety and my head pounding with stress.  I was in good company. Research shows again and again that our finances can take a toll on our minds. Money has consistently topped Americans’ list of stressors since the American Psychological Association began running its annual Stress in America Survey…

A massive transformation is underway at Hyatt, and it’s boosting the company — which is behind brands like Alila and Park Hyatt — into major profitability. The company reported this week a hefty $522 million profit, riding high on recent real estate sales and strength across leisure, group and business travel. It’s more than just Wall Street success keeping things busy at the Chicago-based hotel giant, though. Hyatt leaders this week touted various successes like growth of the newly integrated partial — and growing — portfolio of Mr & Mrs Smith luxury and boutique hotels. Further, the brand is riding…
